Parsing is where Greek either clicks or doesn’t, and the only way through is a lot of practice. ParseGreek gives you that practice with real forms from the Greek New Testament. You see a word like ἐλύθησαν and work through it one decision at a time: tense, voice, mood, person and number for a verb, or case, gender and number for a noun or participle. Then the app shows you which parts you got right and what the correct parsing is.
Quizzes follow your textbook. Pick the chapters whose vocabulary you’ve learned and the chapters whose grammar you’ve covered, and ParseGreek gives you only the forms you can be expected to know. If you’ve learned the words in Mounce chapters 4 to 6 but only the nominative and accusative so far, you won’t be ambushed by a genitive plural. Fifteen grammars are supported, including three in Spanish.
Once the textbook is behind you, quiz yourself by how often words occur in the New Testament, or work through sets like μι verbs, contract verbs, second aorists and every form of λύω. When you’re stuck, a hint gives the principal parts, the paradigm sheet holds the endings, and 50:50 narrows the choices. You can try it all free with ParseGreek LITE.
What you can do
- Parse more than 9,500 forms from the Greek New Testament: verbs, participles, infinitives, nouns, adjectives and pronouns.
- Build quizzes from the vocabulary and grammar chapters of 15 introductory grammars, so you only see forms you've studied.
- Quiz by how often words occur in the New Testament, or by nine sets such as the article, μι verbs, contract verbs, second aorists and every form of λύω.
- Narrow a quiz to nouns, adjectives, pronouns, verbs or participles, and narrow verbs to one mood.
- Parse one decision at a time and see exactly which parts you got right, with the correct answer beside any mistake.
- Add the lexical form to each answer when you want to practise recognising the dictionary form too.
- Get help mid-quiz with principal parts, a 50:50 that strikes out wrong choices, and a sheet of noun and verb endings.
- Drill weak spots by repeating missed forms, seeing each form more than once, or leaving out forms you've already mastered.
- Jump back into your recent quizzes and star your textbook so it stays at the top.
- Use the app in English or Spanish, with Spanish glosses and three Spanish-language grammars.
- Study offline, with no account and no ads.
