This policy explains what FlashHebrew does with your information. FlashHebrew is published by AlephToOmega and made by Danny Zacharias in Nova Scotia, Canada, who is responsible for it under Canada's privacy law (PIPEDA).
The short version
- No account, no sign-in, no ads.
- No analytics, no tracking across apps or websites, and nothing is sold or shared for marketing.
- If the app crashes, an anonymous crash report is sent so the bug can be fixed. That is the only data the app sends to the developer.
- Your study progress stays on your device and, if you use iCloud or Android backup, in your own private backup, which only you can access.
What leaves your device
FlashHebrew uses Firebase Crashlytics, a crash-reporting service from Google. When the app crashes or hits a serious error, Crashlytics sends a report containing:
- a technical description of the error (a stack trace);
- your device model, operating system version and the app's version;
- a random installation identifier created by Crashlytics, which is not linked to your name, email, Apple ID or Google account.
Crash reports are used only to find and fix bugs. They are kept for 90 days and then deleted. They are never used for advertising or to build a profile of you. Google processes them on our behalf under the Firebase data processing terms.
If you use iCloud, your study progress also leaves the device, but only to your own private iCloud account, as described under iCloud backup below. On Android, the same goes for your own Google backup. The developer can't see it.
What stays on your device
FlashHebrew saves these on your device:
- your study progress: flashcard results, your review schedule and the cards in your study deck
- your settings
These stay on your device, apart from the iCloud or Android backup described below. Deleting the app deletes the copy on your device.
iCloud backup
If you're signed in to iCloud, FlashHebrew also saves your study progress and settings to your own private iCloud account, using Apple's CloudKit private database and iCloud key-value storage. That way your progress comes back if you reinstall the app or move to a new iPhone or iPad. Each edition (PRO, LITE and Pratico & Van Pelt) keeps its own copy, so progress isn't shared between editions. In the app, Erase progress (under Clear Smart Study deck) removes your progress from your device and from iCloud.
This data is stored by Apple under your Apple Account. The developer can't see or access it. The app works the same with iCloud turned off; your progress then stays only on your device.
To manage or delete it, go to Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Storage, or turn iCloud off for the app.
On Android
On Android, iCloud isn't used. Instead, if backup is turned on for your device, Android includes FlashHebrew's study progress and settings in your own Google Account backup, so they come back when you reinstall the app or set up a new phone. This backup is handled by Google under your account, and the developer can't see or access it. You can turn it off or delete it in your device's backup settings (usually Settings › Google › Backup).
Purchases
In-app purchases are handled entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play. The app learns only whether a purchase was made, so it can unlock the content you bought. Your payment details, name and email are never shared with the developer by the app.
Apple and Google send developers sales reports with totals by country. These don't identify you.
Children
FlashHebrew is a study tool suitable for any age. Because it collects no personal information, it collects none from children.
Your choices
- To remove everything the app has saved, delete the app. To remove the iCloud copy too, delete it in iCloud storage as described above. On Android, delete the backup in your device's backup settings.
- Crash reports can't be linked to you, so they can't be looked up by name. If you'd like any report from your device removed, email the address below with your device model and roughly when the crash happened, and it will be deleted if it can be found.
- You can ask what information is held about you, or ask a question about this policy, at any time.
Changes to this policy
If the app starts handling data differently, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the date at the top will change.
